Hi, I'm Nicki, and I Started My Art Business at 40
I didn't have any formal art training, and I didn't have a business degree. All I had was a strong desire that wouldn't go away, and a determination to figure it out.
Let me take you back to 2012.
I was a freelance makeup artist, exhausted from long days and weekends away from my family, and I kept thinking: "What if I'm too late? What if I missed my chance?"
But I had this desire that wouldn't go away. A voice that kept saying: "What would it feel like to make art for a living and be a thriving artist?"
So I decided to try.
I taught myself everything. WordPress, graphic design, Adobe. I made greeting cards, printed mugs, sold at markets, exhibited my art, listed on Etsy and even licensed my artwork. Some months, I made pennies. But I told myself that there was no plan B. I wanted to contribute to my family’s budget and feel successful and proud of the art business that I was building from home while raising my kid
Today, I've taught over 80,000 students how to paint with watercolor.
I've published Watercolor Made Simple, which became a #1 Amazon bestseller. I've partnered with brands like Hallmark, Etchr Lab, and Winsor & Newton, and featured in magazines like In Her Studio and Where Women Create.
